Webb entered the Junior House in September, 1904, and Hampden House in September, 1908. He was made a Prefect in 1911. He was Captain of the 2nd Football XI in 1911-12. He was a Corporal in the O.T.C. He left Brighton College in July, 1912, and went up to Christ's College, Cambridge. When the War broke out he enlisted in the Public Schools Brigade, Royal Fusiliers. He was afterwards gazetted Second Lieutenant I the 3rd (S.R.) Battalion Leicester Regiment, from which he was transferred to the 1st Battalion in Mesopotamia.

2nd Lieutenant Alfred Henderson Webb (Hampden House 1904–1912)

Alfred Webb was born on 4 March 1894 in Cuckfield, Sussex. He was the eldest son and second child of Henry Webb, an architect, and his wife Elizabeth (née Rose). At the College he was Captain of the 2nd XI Football, a school prefect and a corporal in the OTC. On leaving the school he went up to Christ’s College, Cambridge, in 1912.

On the outbreak of war he enlisted in the Public Schools’ Battalion but after being transferred for officer training received a commission in the 3rd Battalion, Leicestershire Regiment in 1915. He was later transferred to the 2nd Battalion, which was one of the three British Battalions attached to the 7th (Meerut) Division, Indian Army, in Mesopotamia. He died there on 4 May 1916.

His grave is in Basra War Cemetery, Iraq.
